It’s been almost a year since a fire broke out at The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London – and it’s finally ready to show off its transformation, billed as “the most extensive restoration in the hotel’s 117-year history.”
The five-star hotel reopened its public spaces in December 2018, with a renovated Lobby Lounge, The Rosebery tearoom, Bar Boulud, Mandarin Bar; and the two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal.
The hotel's Ballroom and Loggia were restored to include 24-carat gilding of many original features; and a new, hand-painted Butterfly Terrace. Two new, versatile meeting spaces were added, as well.
Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park will unveil renovated guest rooms and suites, including two newly created expansive penthouse suites, when it fully reopens on Apr. 15.

All 181 guestrooms and suites will sport a fresh new look, led by designer Joyce Wang, with Art Deco-inspired features including curated artworks. Custom-designed furniture includes onyx chandeliers, leather-topped desks, and marble bathrooms. In the suites, libraries will be curated by historic London bookseller, Heywood Hill; and there will be yoga mats for private practice.
Two brand-new penthouse suites with private terraces boast expansive views of Hyde Park and the London skyline.
The spa was also upgraded, with a new spacious Oriental Suite that has two massage beds and a Rasul water temple, joining the 13 individual treatments rooms. There will now be a dedicated room for traditional Chinese Medicine treatments; a Bastien Gonzalez Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio; and a newly designed PilatesPT yoga studio. The extensive spa menu has also been enhanced.
In celebration, the hotel has created a “Be the First to Stay” package available from Apr. 15 to June 30, 2019. Priced from £659, inclusive of VAT, the promotion includes daily breakfast; a bottle of Champagne on arrival; and a daily credit (ranging from £75 to £250 depending on the room/suite category booked) to be used in the new Spa, Mandarin Bar, The Rosebery or Bar Boulud.
